Draft Daze

The NBA and NHL seasons are almost mirror images of each other. They both start in October, crown their champions in mid to late June and hold their respective players draft about two weeks later.

Thursday night started the three days of drafting between the two leagues with the NBA Draft. The Minnesota Timberwolves selected 7-foot Center Karl-Anthony Towns with the first overall selection.

During the draft Panini released the first “digital trading cards” of some of the players selected.

Friday and Saturday will be the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The NHL ready to welcome a pair of players into the league that could become the game’s next big superstars in Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel. McDavid is a lock to be selected first by the Edmonton Oilers with Eichel likely going second to the Buffalo Sabres.

McDavid already has cards available with appearances in some Leaf/In The Game sets as a CHL prospect as well as some Upper Deck products as a member of Team Canada. Eichel played college hockey for Boston University, which means he will not appear on a card until he makes his NHL debut.
