MVP Monday: Peter Costello

Whether you prefer to be warm and cozy in the comfort of your home, or enjoy enduring the cold while thrashing the hills, we hope youā€™re enjoying a safe and happy winter season! Thank you for once again joining us for our MVP Monday spotlight! While the demand for trading cards continues to rise, so has the demand for seeing those cards get ripped open! Thatā€™s where our breaking division comes in, and our MVP this week has been entertaining the masses with his ripping abilities. Meet our late night breaker, Pete Costello! As always, we sit down to talk and learn a little more about our MVP.

– Do you have a New Year’s resolution? Do you think you’ll succeed?

I plan on working on my propensity for procrastination.  I think Iā€™ll start tomorrow.

We appreciate the honesty, Pete.

– What are your interests outside of work?

I enjoy history and sports. Sometimes at the same time. We have a lot of great outdoor activities here like sailing, skiing and seeing live music.

Hey Pete, did you know that George Washington was considered a ā€œMaster Sportsmanā€ of his time? He was great at archery, sword fighting, swimming, wrestling, hunting, and the list goes on! Of course, Pete probably already knew that. I have google on my side ;).

– What are your favorite sports teams and why?

Growing up in the Buffalo area I have always been a huge Bills fan. My dad has had season tickets for the Bills since 1977 and I have been going to games all my life. It is always a great experience to head out to the stadium with my dad, my brother, and our whole crew that has been with us for so many years.  Definitely some bright days ahead for this team!

The Sabres have also been a huge part of my fandom as well. I always say Alexander Mogilny was my first favorite Sabre. When he got traded, Dominik Hasek took over that spot and went on one of the most amazing runs any Buffalo athlete had done before;  Such an incredible and unique player. It was a distinct pleasure to meet him when he came and visited the offices of Dave and Adam’s. Back to back conference championships my senior year of high school and freshman year of college were also pretty thrilling. Since then, the bright spots have been few and far between, but the fact that we have an NHL team in our city is a point of civic pride and as we have found with the Bills, this run of losing will make the next winning teams all the more special.

I have always been a big baseball fan as well. I grew up as a Yankees fan because my father and grandfather were such great Yankee fans. Their favorite players were Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle. I was fortunate enough to have Derek Jeter be the standard for my baseball fandom starting as a 10 year old in 1996, and then have a pretty decent run for nearly the next 20 years.

We love the hometown support! Weā€™ve been through some highs and lows, but youā€™re right. The pain of being a losing franchise for so long always makes the winning turnaround taste so much sweeter. However, there are a few Red Sox fans in the office; hope we donā€™t turn this into an office war!

– What’s your favorite product that we sell?

As a breaker I love the Hit Parade products. They are so perfectly tailor-made for the format and it is such a great way to build collections and have a great time without all of the blubber of a whole box. Check out our Hit Parade products here

Personally, I have been very impressed with the Leaf hockey products this year. The Pro Set is like a piece of my childhood with the original buybacks, and you may be hit with the nostalgia of a Whalers or Northstars card. The autograph checklist has been pretty great as well; It truly is the ā€œHottest Card On Iceā€!  Check out Leaf products here!

The Superlative also has been pretty loaded. That comes with a mem card and an auto card. These have rarely disappointed as well. The players we see on both the mem and auto sets have been outrageously cool. All of this from an unlicensed product which in my opinion makes it even cooler! Get the Superlative products here!

As you can tell, our breakers have an extensive knowledge of cards from opening packs for you all day! Itā€™s easy to find your favorite products this way, and we always love pulling big hits for our loyal customers. If you havenā€™t enjoyed the thrill of seeing a breaker open your cards, then check out our list of live break products here! You can tune into our streams @dacardworld through Youtube, Twitch, and Facebook.

-Tell me about your background with DA/HP? What attracted you to work for us?

I started processing cards for Hit Parade a little over a year ago. I applied for a job at Dave and Adams because I wanted a new start in something that would interest me. Having been out of the hobby for a decade and a half, it really was the perfect crash course in sports cards. After building the knowledge base up, I was offered an opportunity to do some breaks on the channel and here we are. Building and interacting with the community on the stream has made it such a fun and rewarding experience.

And the people love you; youā€™re a natural! Thank you for all that you do for the breaking division and Dave and Adamā€™s as a whole! We wouldnā€™t be the same without you, Pete!

Thank you once again for joining us for our MVP Monday highlight! Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates on all things Dave and Adamā€™s! See ya next week!
