The Boston Red Sox were up 14 games in July of 1978, until the New York Yankees caught up at the end of the season, and tied it up after the last regular season game, forcing a one-game tiebreaker for the American League East Title. The Boston Red Sox had home field advantage, everything was moving in their favor. But the pressure was on. 7th inning, Red Sox were up 2-0 after a homer from Yastrzemski and a single drove in my Jim Rice, and the yankees were held to two hits through six innings. Chambliss and Roy White both singled off of Mike Torrez, and Jim Spencer flied to left field for a second out. This brought
up Bucky Dent, who was batting ninth, and only had four home runs through 122 games that season. After receiving a bat from Mickey Rivers, Dent belts a pitch, clearing the Green Monster, and forever writing baseball history. The New York Yankees went on to win the playoff game, and eventually ended up beating the Dodgers in the World Series.
