Conroy Cards Joins ‘The Chase’

Founder of card co. pulls 1/1 Conor McGregor; Card now owned by famous DJ

Recently, the buzz for UFC cards has risen. Collectors left and right have been opening UFC Select in search for the big name fighters and the results, so far, have been positive.

For Gage Conroy of Conroy Cards, he got a pleasant surprise during a break of UFC Select. Conroy was able to pull a one of one black of “The Notorious” Conor McGregor. The Irish superstar is one of the most popular and notorious, pun not intended, names in the UFC.

McGregor is currently 22-6 in his UFC career, and a three-time champion.

Conroy said he began collecting just a few short years ago as the COVID-19 pandemic came around and had no prior experience collecting anything. Ever since getting into it, he’s big into football products, but also dives into other sports such as baseball and UFC.

Of the pull, the one of one kind of caught Conroy by surprise.

“You could see in the video, I didn’t even know that card was coming,” he said with a laugh. “I just saw black and kind of forgot we were even looking for a one of one and it just popped up. What do you know?”

As it is many times, the best part of breaks is hearing how the winner reacted to the big pull, because it’s an altering moment. Conroy said this pull came at the perfect time for the lucky winner.

“When I pulled it, the dude who hit the card immediately messaged me and was like ‘Dude, thank you so much. I’m having a kid this Friday. I can sell the card and it’s going to help me a ton,’ ” Conroy said.

Additionally, Conroy said upon hearing that, it’s what he loves most about doing breaks – knowing you made an impact for somebody.

“When you hear something like that, it hits you. Like you just helped someone out. This dude’s going to sell it for however much. After the live, you kind of sit there and look at it like it’s weird how there’s one card in the world and it’s just sitting in my house right now. People are looking for this and it’s here. When you can hit something for someone that, not changes their life, but gives them a little gasp of money, that makes you feel good,” he said.

The card was sold, but the amount is currently unknown as the buyer would not reveal. Speaking of the buyer … you may know him.

Many celebrities are known to be avid collectors, but for this specific card, Conroy said he was reached to by one of the biggest in the hobby.

DJ Steve Aoki reached out to Conroy inquiring about the card, and Conroy eventually got Aoki in touch with the winner and a deal was made.

“Later that night, I get a message from Steve Aoki online – the last person you’d expect to message you, right? He said, ‘Hey, where’s that card, I want to buy it.’ So I got him and the buyer into contact and they ended up working a deal. So crazy enough, the card is now in Steve Aoki’s hands and who knows what he’ll do with it,” Conroy said.
