Dave & Adam’s Buying Team Stories: Uncut 1979 Topps Hockey proof sheet

Dave & Adam’s Buying Team made an interesting purchase at the Toronto Sportscard Expo back in the beginning of May. They got their hands on an uncut proof sheet of 1979 Topps Hockey. That set is, of course, famous for the Wayne Gretzky rookie card, and this sheet contains that card.

You can tell it’s a proof sheet because many of the cards are missing the city or team name from the top of the card, including Gretzky’s .

It’s still a nice piece of memorabilia, especially if you’re a Gretzky collector or fond of hockey rookies. This set is also very popular for it’s memorable blue-bordered design.

There are several other hall of famers and notable players on the sheet, including Marcel Dionne, Bryan Trottier, Borje Salming, Darryl Sittler, Bobby Smith, Mike Milbury, Dale McCourt (the infamous airbrushed L.A. Kings card), Terry O’ Reilly, Mike Palmateer, Wayne Cashman, Jim Schoenfeld, Gerry Cheevers, Butch Goring, Danny Gare, Dave Dryden and Mark Howe.
