Kosuke Fukudome Short Printed Variation Rookie Card
5Jun2008 Filed under: Upper DeckUpper Deck has announced that Chicago Cubs right fielder Kosuke Fukudome has a short printed rookie card in 2008 Upper Deck Series 2 Baseball. Upper Deck’s baseball brand manager Jason Masherah was quoted saying “Fukudome has a huge following in Japan and we felt it necessary to recognize that by creating this rare version which will likely be very popular in Asia.”
The cards are generating some buzz on the secondary market, particular with Japanese collectors. Below is a picture of the regular card, as well as the front and back of the rare version.
Anybody pull one of these yet?

Yeah, they created the short print just to recognize that he will be huge in Japan. That’s why they made the Japanese version the short print, and not the English–despite the fact that he will likely still be bigger in Japan than he will here.

I would assume that collectors in Japan would appreciate the short print version. I thought it was a good idea by UD.

I pulled one of those! When I first opened up the pack I didn’t know of the variation, needless to say I was surprised.

Kudos to UD for at least one thing – not short-printing the Fukudome english card in their base series 2 set!

Yup, I pulled one from a single Hobby pack this afternoon. After my jaw dropped looking at the prices on eBay, I had to put it up for sale.
And yeah, at least the regular Fukudome cards are not SPed.
