Topps Allen & Ginter “Crack The Code”

Topps has created quite a buzz in the baseball card world with the announcement of the “Crack the Allen & Ginter Code” promotion. For those who don’t know here is a short summary from Topps.com :

“Topps is offering up the collector’s ultimate prize….a chance to appear in the 2009 Allen & Ginter Baseball Card base set. In every 24 packs of 2008 Allen & Ginter Baseball, appears an insert titled “World’s Greatest Victories”. There are 20 different cards in all. Once all 20 cards are collected, they can be formatted as a group to reveal a secret message. The message has a call for action and the first to do it correctly will appear in next year’s set as the “Champion Code Breaker”.

Although many collectors may have had their own trading card back in little league, this is a little more significant. Most likely whoever cracks the code will be opening up a fair share of 2009 Allen & Ginter, after all they may be able to say “Hey I pulled a card of me!”

Have you ever had a trading card of yourself at any level?

I had a few little league cards – I even signed a couple for my grandparents.

I’ve had two made – both at “All-Star Fan Festivals”. The first was in 1992 as a baseball player, the second was in 2000 as a Hockey Player. I love those cards.

I need to make some up for my daughter.

William – sounds like some great cards for your personal collection, especially if you can get some of your daughter.

Sounds great but it seems whichever big time dealer gets there shipment first will win, Kind of pointless for the average collector on a budget.
